The Intermountain Mesh is a volunteer-run regional communications organization based in the Intermountain West of the United States, a broad inland region that includes Utah and parts of neighboring states such as Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, and Colorado.

The group focuses on building and coordinating resilient, off-grid messaging infrastructure that can operate independently of traditional internet and cellular networks. Its work brings structure and interoperability to otherwise independent deployments by encouraging shared conventions, community-operated infrastructure, and collaborative expansion of coverage across a large and geographically diverse region of mountains, deserts, and high plateaus.

Participants operate nodes in a wide range of environments—from dense urban areas along the Wasatch Front to remote mountain ranges and rural valleys—creating a cooperative communications fabric that improves reach and redundancy over time. In addition to infrastructure deployment, the organization also serves as a coordination hub, providing documentation, onboarding resources, and community support for new operators.

With the introduction of Reticulum support, the Intermountain Mesh is extending its interoperability efforts to include protocol-agnostic, end-to-end encrypted networking, broadening the ways participants can interconnect and build resilient communication paths across the region and beyond.

Stay tuned for more information including LoRa settings adopted by the mesh.
