Not sure if I am missing something on this. The matrix chat had 900 people in it - I’m relatively new, but use my phone most of the time for discussion.

The pinned message is confusing. Seems like the room was just torn down with no planning/warning/prep? And the only chat now requires RNS+desktop?

I believe torlando has mentioned he plans on adding RRC support to columba, that would work on mobile.

this place (https://directory.rns.recipes/forum/general/did-we-just-kill-mobile-chat-for-the-entire-rns-community) works on mobile but that's not what you are really asking. Nobody really uses the RRC from my knowledge though so I wouldn't worry about that too much, it's pretty much just here and the remaining group chats in matrix mentioned here https://directory.rns.recipes/forum/off-topic/info-matrix-chat-space

People much most people agree that old matrix chat was shit but also that it suddenly being deleted was out of left field and now everyone's kinda over it. It was a whole thing.

(Ps mods/whoever moderates this place, deleting the origin thread with people annoyed about that decision leads to people posting new threads about that and causes more spam instead of just having one contained thread, so that was kinda a dumb decision)

I think that the one big reticulum matrix group chat was overloaded.

Perhaps the better solution is a matrix space with individual topic chat rooms.

While I like the idea that discussions about reticulum happen "in reticulum" it is not practical yet in my opinion.

This forum is a fun experiment though.

With a space in different rooms for topics like general discussion, firmware info, development of other tools it would be a lot easier to follow updates.

Would someone who is more involved in the community start a Matrix space like that?

From my point of view the forum works unexceptionally well with our community, i did not expect.

The matrix room still exists, dreieck is the admin on the space and seems open for changes, i think it'd be best if you suggest that to him on the matrix space:

Ah thanks this is the thing I was looking for.

I also think this Nomad Net forum works better than expected but it is still easier to to follow some discussions in a Matrix space.

I will just look into both from time to time. ;)

This really resonates with me after doing a lot of organizing that's heavily dependant on group chats.

I would also warn that I've seen misinformation spoken with great authority on the matrix chat and personally lost interest in investigating/correcting it and then keeping up with it at all. I think of it primarily as a place for enthusiastic fans of reticulum. Having arrived there only after doing a thorough study of the reticulum manual I did not find the chat a helpful resource in facilitating further inquiry.

Thanks for that. I'll be sharing it with some people I know. My first line in response to starting an organizing group chat is to say that the only decisions it should be used for is determining when to have a meeting.
